Michael S. Long was re-elected Chair on April 19, 2017. An active resident of Florida since 1969, he is a Commissioner for the City of Lighthouse Point, where he is currently serving his 17th year in office. As Commissioner, he has served as President for six terms. He also serves as Vice-Chair of the Broward County Planning Council, appointed by the Broward County Commission. Mr. Long also serves on the Lighthouse Point Police and Fire Pension Board. Mr. Long studied business management at Florida State University and earned a bachelor's in Education from Florida Atlantic University. He is currently serving as the Chief Development Officer of the Broward Partnership, a 230 bed solution-based facility serving over 1,200 homeless men, women and families in Fort Lauderdale. Mr. Long is a graduate of both the Leadership Florida and Leadership Broward programs. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Greater Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce. In September of 2016, Mike was recognized by Broward College with the "Distinguished Alumni Community Service Award" in recognition of his exemplary work in our community. Mercedes J. Nunez is a resident commissioner and represents all multi-family and Section 8 residents. She attended NYU Prep School, Hunter College and State University of NY at Binghamton. Ms. Núñez has worked as a 911 communications operator for the Broward Sheriff's Office and has been involved with the Muscular Dystrophy Association since 1978. She has recently been named an Hispanic Woman of Distinction for 2012 by the Latina Style Magazine, the nation's leading publication for Hispanic business women. Russell Marcus is the Chief of Business and Economic Incentives for the Department of Economic Opportunity, where he oversees approvals of the State's key business incentive programs, including the Quick Action Closing Fund, the Qualified Target Industry Tax Incentive, the Brownfield Redevelopment Incentive, the High-Impact Performance Incentive, and the Capital Investment Tax Credit programs. Mr. Marcus' experience at DEO includes the corporate headquarters relocation of The Hertz Corporation to Estero, Hoerbirger's expansion in Coral Springs, United States Tennis Association's headquarters relocation to Orlando, Navy Federal Credit Union's expansion in Pensacola, Northrop Grumman's expansions in Melbourne and Saint Augustine, United Technologies Corporation's relocation to Palm Beach Gardens, and Univision's expansion in Miami. Prior to joining DEO in 2013, Mr. Marcus was an associate at the Fort Lauderdale office of Greenberg Traurig, P.A., where he specialized in mergers and acquisitions and private equity transactions. Prior to joining Greenberg Traurig in 2010, Mr. Marcus was a mergers and acquisitions associate at Clifford Chance and Dewey & LeBoeuf in New York. Mr. Marcus received a B.S. magna cum laude in applied economics and political science and a B.S. in finance from Florida State University in 2000 and a J.D. from Columbia Law School in 2004, where he was Articles Editor of the Columbia Business Law Review.
Mr. Marcus was appointed to the Board of Commissioners by Governor Rick Scott for a term beginning May 16, 2016 and ending October 25, 2018. Karyne Pompilus is a former French and ESOL strategies teacher at MDCPS and Broward County Public Schools. She studied social-science and political science at Florida Atlantic University, earned a Master Degree in Business Administration from University of Phoenix and a certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies in Human Services Administration and Organizational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University. Mrs. Pompilus is also a current doctorate candidate in these fields. She has recently received a Higher Education Professional Engagement Grant Award from Fischler School of Education and Human Services and a Leadership and Dedication Award from Bethlehem Church.
