Public Record Request
As a Florida public housing authority, the Broward County Housing Authority (BCHA) is obligated by statute to provide access to public records pursuant to Florida Public Records Law, Chapter 119, and Florida Statutes. Records may be requested in person, via phone, fax, or e-mail or regular mail. Requests are not required to be submitted in writing, nor do we require your name or reason for requesting; however, in some instances written requests can help identify the specific records requested and ensure accurate records are produced thus reducing the time and cost associated with compiling your public records request.
Records will be provided in the medium requested if the BCHA maintains the records in that medium. Paper copies cost $0.15 per one-sided copy and $0.20 per two-sided copy. Electronic records can be placed on a flash drive for $0.85 per flash drive. Maps/blueprints/larger size copies are based on actual cost of duplication. Requests that require extensive clerical or supervisory assistance, which require more than 30 minutes to locate, compile, redact, inspect, and re-file will be considered extensive and labor charges will be assessed. Labor charges are calculated at the hourly rate, including benefits of the lowest paid employee capable of performing the task, multiplied by the number of hours the request takes (minus the first 30 minutes) rounded to the nearest quarter hour. In addition, requestors are responsible for any associated mailing charges. In some instances, additional fees not listed above will be charged (ex: certified copies, federal express, etc.)
An estimated invoice will be provided, and the requestor must approve the invoice prior to BCHA compiling the requested records. Prepayment is required for all estimated invoices. Future requests will not be processed until past due balances are resolved.
Record requests must be remitted via exact cash, cashier’s check, money order, or personal or business check.
Please carefully consider the information that will be useful to you. Very broad requests can take longer to fulfill and may become costly. The requested information will be provided in a reasonable period of time under normal conditions, unless such information is considered to be confidential or exempt from public records disclosure. BCHA hours are Monday through Frida 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM.
If a requesting party fails to respond to inquiries for clarification, cost estimates or any other communication from BCHA for 30 business days, the request may be closed. A non-responsive request may be resubmitted and will be processed as a new request.
(Per Florida Statutes, the requestor is NOT REQUIRED to provide a name or other contact information. If the Requestor does not wish to leave contact information, an estimated time will be provided for when the requestor should contact the Public Records Coordinator to determine if the request has been completed).
If you wish to submit a request to inspect or copy public records, the BCHA Custodian of Public Records is:
